POWDER SEEKERS 2020: MADARAO & SURROUNDS
SEEKING EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST
Snowriders Australia in partnership with Madarao Resort and the Active Life Group, is presently seeking expressions of interest for Powder Seekers 2020; the second in our series of regular Club Skiing and Snowboarding adventures to the Nagano Prefecture, Japan.
Powder Seekers 2020, taking in Madarao and surrounding resorts, is suited to families and powder hounds alike. Madarao is the perfect family destination with gentle slopes, kid friendly western food and a kid’s adventure play area.
Located in the middle of the Nagano prefecture, Madarao is the perfect base for the more experienced riders to enjoy the region’s famous champagne powder snow, either in the Madarao Resort itself, or other nearby resorts, as serviced by Active Life’s complimentary shuttle bus.
Our accommodation is Xplore and Hakken by Active Life, Australian/Kiwi owned and newly renovated hotels just minutes walk from the chairlift. Forget catching buses and taxis, everything in Madarao is just minutes away on foot, making everything super easy, especially with kids.
SRA toured Madarao in 2018 and 2019 with the kids in tow (see review here), so we are well practiced an familiar with what the area has to offer. Madarao is blessed with 8-10 m of snow annually and has a good variety of terrain from gentle beginner slopes, right through to black diamond tree runs.
Furthermore, unlike some Japanese resorts, Madarao actually encourages off-piste tree skiing, which is facilitated by ‘glading’ (or thinning) of the trees. This makes for unparalleled off-piste skiing, without the crowds.
Madarao is also relatively quiet, with few lift queues and no noisy night clubs; it does however have several cosy bars, perfect for après drinks and nibbles (including one in our chosen accommodation, and others throughout the Active Life Group). The resort is also close to the famous snow monkey park, accessible by coach (day trip).
Powder Seekers 2020 is a CLUB TRIP, designed for friendly, easy going, like minded riders looking to experience Japan for the first time, or those looking to experience a new area with ample off piste skiing opportunities.
As it is a club trip, guests will be free to ride on their own, or if they chose, ride with our experienced guide. Members of the SRA team will also be available to assist with resort logistics, directions and recommendations (i.e on the best places to eat!). In fact, our friends at Active Life Group have already organised a welcome dinner 🙂
The bottom line [$$]
We’re presently working really hard with our partners at Active Life Group to bring you the best deal possible. We’re nearly there so please bear with us.
However what we can tell you is the trip represents great value for families and singles alike. Nightly rates include a free breakfast, FREE ski & snowboard lessons and if you’re game, FREE shuttle bus transfers to nearby resorts – all in peak season!
But in a nut shell (and for those that can’t wait), you’re probably looking at between $6,200 to $7,200 for families (2 adults, 2 children) and $2,000 to $2,600 for singles. All prices include 7 nights, 6 days skiing, lift and lessons (all day for kids), boards, skis, boot and poles and transfers. Air fares not included.
Such a deal is rare and relatively new for the Active Life Group. To put this in perspective, the offer of FREE lessons alone represents a saving of about $AUD 50 pp per day (or $AUD200 a day for a family of four).
