Active Life Japan, an Australian /New Zealand managed business, has entered into an agreement to purchase Palcall Tsumagoi Ski Resort, in the Karuizawa area, Japan. Active Life announced that they are proud to add Palcall to their growing list of properties, which includes three major hotels in the nearby resort of Madarao.
Palcall is located approximately 26 km from Nagano and situated approximately 20 km south of Shiga Kogen, one of the regions better known resorts. Palcall is famous for its 3.2 km long Gondola and well maintained groomers, the longest of which is 4.2 km.

Active Life General Manager, PK, comments “Palcall is perfect for beginners and intermediates, who want to improve their riding technique, or try out their skills in Palcall’s impressive terrain Park. It also has snow making facilities, which are otherwise rare in the region. This affords some protection from intermittent snow conditions, which have especially been an issue right across Japan’s main island in the last few weeks”, PK said.

But it doesn’t end there. “The area has significant potential”, says Active Life GM, PK. “Active Life has big plans for the resort, including a planned extension to the terrain park, and the development of tree skiing areas and major summer activities”. “What’s really attractive is the just how well suited the area is as a natural terrain park”, added PK further. “We intend for the area to eventually host internationally significant freestyle events, and to attract professional riders from all over the world”; in fact, we hope to make it one of the longest terrain parks in the world in the next few years”, he said.
One of the unique and interesting features of the resort is that it’s just a short drive from the Karuizawa Prince Outlet Mall – one of the largest shopping regions in the prefecture – and very close to the Kusatsu Onsen Village, a beautiful little traditional village, where guests can step back in time and experience the real Japan.

As part of the acquisition, Active Life has also secured the 137 room Onsen Resort hotel. In a media statement, Active Life stated that they has significant plans for the hotel, including the addition of new and exciting facilities, including sleeping capsules, a day spa, bars and restaurants. At the center of their philosophy is a belief that Active Life and Palcall must contribute to the local Tsumagoi community, to ensure that local people and businesses benefit as the resort develops. We say hear hear to that.
